F is for Follow

Firstly, thank you to those that are following RJR Daydreamer, I hope that you continue to find at least something's I write amusing, enlightening or better still a cause for reflection. If you have started following as a result of the current A-Z challenge I appreciate you joining us.

Now a question, how many blogs can you realistically follow? I have been working my way through the 1200+  on the challenge list, my technique is to scan a couple of posts, have a look at the profile and make a quick decision on whether to Follow. If something strikes a chord in the first couple of posts I will also make a comment. This has resulted in a pretty big increase in  the number of blogs I follow, but I have to be honest and say I have become more discerning in my selection. That is not to say I am being critical of those I don't choose, just that at this moment in time with so much choice they are not the most appealing to my taste.

When I log on now, I check the dashboard for new post on my following list and make comments if I have something to offer. I think at the end of the month I will have to review my list and thin it out a little  ? I say this because I cant see how I will be able to follow, in a worthwhile sense, the number of blogs I will probably select on my journey through April.

So to some of you that are old hands at this blogging thing, how many blogs is it practical to follow and keep yourself firmly anchored in the "Real" world ?

I feel badly about not following all the blogs on A to Z, but I would never have time to eat, drink, sleep, or blog if I tried! Like you, I've taken a peek at some and bookmark or follow those I like. I will probably thin that out later also. Right now I have my highest number of followers ever, but I'm being realistic in knowing that the number will probably fall more than half after the challenge fades out. But that's okay.I'm learning.

Like you I have been scanning the profiles and blog entries.....I have to be honest with myself...the A-Z postings may be great but do I really want to follow a blog about running or cycling or dirt bike racing (as an example)? It would be nice next year, if the participation is still this high, to have the blogs indexed by type somehow.

I'm a social butterfly online. I browse and comment here and there regaurdless of whether I follow a blog or not.
Like you, I do look at the profile to see if something strikes a chord-- and if it does I'll be back. (=

This challenge is making my blogging life difficult because I really do want to visit everyone's blogs at least once but I still want to hit all my usual blogs. (By the end of the month, I am going to have to go ahead and just give up sleep completely.)

So I pick a handful of new blogs to visit every day, scan them and see if their subject matter or point of view or writing style is something that I want to see more of.

Mybabyjohn has a great idea in indexing the blogs next April.

excellent question. This blogging world is certainly an alternate universe.

I only follow those I feel I will enjoy reading later, when Real life resumes.

Do as I'm doing.. Follow follow me. :)

Hi, John~! Bloggin' can be totally exhausting! When I began, I thought "Oh, poor me"...didn't have many that read and commented..Still don't have very many...But, I guess that the A-Z challenge puts a kink into the readin' and commentin' phase~!! I do lots during the day, volunteering and such and just LIFE..so, I am usually playin' catch up~!! Arghhhh...But, I do have a sorta' system..I know that I am probably missin' a lotta' good bloggin'...but GEEZ...it is near impossible with as many entries that Arlee had~!
Thanks for the follower thingie! Love the Elephant pic...

See you for "G"...

I follow a lot more than I actually read...and that is not because I don't want too. I just don't have enough time. I try to be sure that I visit a blog once every few weeks or so. It's about the best I can do, but when I visit I try to read the most recent posts to catch up a little. Sadly, I don't comment as often as I should. That being said...glad I found you! :)

I don't know what that magic number is, but in general I already follow more blogs and sites than I can keep up with. I use Google Reader to help manage that, but still I have very limited "blog time" each day. As a result I don't comment as much as I'd like, even if I read someone's post.

For this blogfest however, I am putting in extra effort to get around and be better about commenting, as so many are taking the time to create their posts for the challenge, and then visiting and commenting on my blog. But it is tough...

If I follow a blog, I visit it about twice a week or more, I might not always comment (especially if there are already over 20 comments)

this A to Z is great, I'm seeing so many blogs that I wouldn't have otherwise visited, with that said there are a lot of blogs I have seen that I do not see myself visiting on a regular basis, so I read a few posts, say my hello and do not follow.

realisitically you will not like every blog that you visit (long winded round about anwser sorry)

I have a couple of dozen blogs that I really 'follow' - people I have connected with. But I follow hundreds of fellow writer/reader blogs, just to show my support. Plus, I like to skim over their topics, remind myself of their names, and occasionally stop by for a comment. Google Reader folders help me keep them organized. :) Good topic!

I'm number 879 on the A-Z hop list. It's nice to 'meet' you. :)

This is such an interesting question! I am a newer blogger and find it hard sometimes to keep up with faster paced blogs. Yet during this A-Z Challenge I am buzzing with excitement over the blogs I never knew about. I hope to stay connected to the ones I find on my journey. But I apprieciate the honesty of knowing after April scaling back may be necessary. With the excitement of A-Z and seeing what everyones letter of the day is I just hope for myself it becomes good habit to continue.

I have to admit I was not as strategic about the A-Z list, I will go to the list and randomly click on some that sound interesting and read the current post. I have found a lot that interest me and make me want to read more, but there are quite a few that are not blogging about things I am interested in. As for the ones I follow I don't read every entry they post just the ones I'm interested in. As for commenting, that's hit or miss with me. Most of the time I read and don't comment but I'm trying to comment more often because most people are looking for feed-back.
