Pots and Pans

This afternoon Jo and I went for a walk up one of the local hills known as "Pots and Pans" its not a hike more of a energetic ramble. We live in Saddleworth on the edge of Oldham which is to the North East of Manchester.

Its wonderful to live 5 minutes drive from such beautiful places but we tend to not make the most of them. On countless occasions we have gone to places on Holiday and ended up walking in areas not much different than this.

We were childless for the afternoon, Rachel at Work, and Jacob on his PS3 in his room. Ruth had gone out with her friend for the afternoon, on their bikes. While at the top of the hill Ruth rang to say they had gone the opposite way to us and were on top of a hill 3.5 miles away called Hartshead Pike. Needless to say 3.5 miles is a long way to see with the naked eye but we took a picture anyway !

At the top of Pots and Pans stands a lone obelisk, built as a memorial to the soldiers of Saddleworth who died in the 2 great wars. Here are a couple more pictures from the top..

In the first picture that is bottom right of the four, you can just make out Jo in her black coat walking towards the memorial. The memorial itself has the names of local fallen soldiers and several, now faded plaques. Poppy's are still there placed on remembrance Sunday last November.

Finally to get a better perspective here is a 360 degree video we took while up there.
